A Mission
Yellow whales crossing the desert_polymer clay, epoxy_What this generation dreams of and hopes for may be finding valuable that urges them to pursue vigorously. Do you have valuable that you can risk your own life for? If you can give a positive answer to this question easily, you are indeed a happy person. Whether it is love or idea, there finds valuable, called a life, when it is deeply looked into. We believe it is valuable enough to risk our own lives if it is to save another life. If we can live for another life while we’re leading a life in this world, or if we can recognize that living for another life is valuable enough to pursue, many people, as in several previous generations,will lay an eye on the person who pursues such a value. Here, I’d like to express the mission that we vigorously pursue for its valuable as the goal of life.
이 세대가 꿈꾸고 바라는 것은 미친 듯이 달려가고 싶은 가치를 발견하는 것일 것이다. 죽어도 아깝지 않는 가치를 가지고 있는가? 라는 질문에 쉽게 대답할 수 있는 사람이 있다면 행복한 사람일 것이다. 그것이 사랑이든 사상이든, 자세히 그 안을 들여다 보면 그곳에는 생명이라는 가치가 있는 것을 발견할 수 있다. 생명을 위해서는 죽을 만큼의 가치가 있다고 생각되는 것이다. 한 생명으로 한 인생을 살아가며 다른 생명을 위해 살아갈 수 있다면, 또는 그것이 미친 듯이 달려가도 될 만한 가치라고 인정할 수 있다면, 많은 사람들은 여러 세대가 그렇듯, 그 사람을 주목할 것이다. 그 가치를 미친 듯이 쫓아가는, 삶의 목적과 이유가 되는 Mission에 관한 얘기를 꺼내고자 한다.

Yellow whales are swimming across the desert. Their mission is to pass the desert by swimming. They are swimming toward a narrow gate that may exist somewhere. And there spreads the sky as blue as the ocean in the desert. The whales hope for swimming up to the endlessly spreading blue sky when their mission is accomplished. Among the missions of many people who live a life, the dream of yellow whales heading for a narrow gate implies that something valuable exists beyond the narrow gate to save lives.
‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”Matthew 7:13-14
I believe, on the way to the narrow gate that only a few head for, a gasp of astonishment in rarity exists and valuable of reviving a life lies. Yellow whales have gladly decided to swim across the desert and chosen the middle of the desert, and we are at the moment that their rarity comes to us as astonishment. If more lives could revive, I’d like to keep the rarity to head toward the narrow gate.
노랑 고래들은 사막을 헤엄쳐 지나가고 있다. 그들의 Mission은 사막을 헤엄쳐 지나가는 것이다. 그들은 어딘가에 있을 좁은 문(narrow gate)을 향해 헤엄쳐간다. 그리고 그 사막에는 바다 만큼 파란 하늘이 펼쳐져 있다. 저들의 Mission이 끝나는 날에 끝없이 펼쳐진 파란 하늘로 헤엄쳐 올라가길 기대한다. 삶의 Mission을 가지고 살아가는 많은 사람들의 수많은 Mission들 중에 좁은 문으로 향하는 노랑색 고래의 꿈은 그곳에 생명을 살리는 가치가 있음을 시사한다.
‘좁은 문으로 들어가라 멸망으로 인도하는 문은 크고 그 길이 넣어 그리로 들어가는 자가 많고 생명으로 인도하는 문은 좁고 길이 협착하여 찾는 이가 적음이라.” 마태 7:13-14
많은 이들이 가는 곳이 아닌 좁은 문으로 가는 길에 그 희귀한(rarity) 것에 대한 놀라움이 있고, 생명이 살아나는 가치가 있다고 생각한다. 노랑 고래들은 기꺼이 사막을 헤엄쳐가기를 결정하고 사막의 한 복판을 선택하였고, 그들의 희귀함이 놀라움이 되는 그 순간에 우리는 있다. 더 많은 생명들이 살아 날 수 있다면 그 좁은 문으로 가는 희귀함을 간직하고 싶다.

Pink octopuses live in high heels, changing themselves more glamorous colors. The high heels are their home that can never be given up, and they make endless efforts to have a suitable look for the place. They can’t be honest enough to acknowledge that the goal of their lives and their mission does not belong to themselves, because they think, they would face death at the moment that their lives are denied. However, their moment of death only lies in their own mind that stays in the high heels and it is not real.
Pink Octopus은 더욱더 화려한 색상으로 자신을 변형시키며 하이힐 속에 살아간다. 하이힐은 포기할 수 없는 그들의 보금자리이며 그 곳에 걸맞은 모습을 갖추기 위해 끊임없이 노력하며 살아간다. 그들이 살아가는 이유와 Mission은 그들의 것이 아니라는 것을 알아차릴 만큼 그들은 정직할 수 없다. 그들의 삶이 부정되는 순간 죽음을 맞이하게 된다고 생각하기 때문이다. 그러나 그들의 죽음의 순간은 계속적으로 그곳에 머무는 그들의 마음 속에 있는 것일 뿐 현실이 아니다.
