Death exists in any moments of one’s life. Many death moments seem to have passed, whether it was someone else’s death or one’s own death. It is not only biological death but more like a story of death in mind, thought and spirit. Being alive, but no better than being dead, or vice versa, get cross our lives in every moment. A lot of thoughts are derived from the issue of biological death and its meaning and the meaning of death is growing increasingly. At one point, one realizes that many moments in life are related to death; one death is abandonment of empty, meaningless and hollow things that one has to accept by one’s own death and the other death is a sacrifice of someone else’s life.
It is very natural to think what death means to one’s life. The moment that brings an urge to die is different for each individual. All humans die. We are fundamentally placed in the middle of a life running toward death. Realizing the fact that we all will die is a part of process of growth. We will all get rusted with the sound of aging and turn into a handful of ashes, permanently disappearing from this world. Therefore, it is very important to contemplate the limited time allowed for us. This piece is facing the stories of mental, emotional and spiritual death encountered everywhere in one’s life in the limited time.
죽음은 삶의 어느 순간이든 있다. 누군가의 죽음이기도 하고 나의 죽음이기도 한 많은 순간을 지나쳐온 듯하다. 생물학적인 죽음만을 이야기 하는 것은 아니다. 더 나아가 마음, 생각, 영혼에 대한 죽음의 이야기이다. 살아있는 것 같지만 죽은 거나 다름없는 상태나 죽은 것 같은데 살아있는 상태는 매 순간 우리의 삶 속을 넘나들고 있다. 생물학적인 죽음과 의미의 문제를 시작으로 많은 생각들이 파생되며 그 의미는 점점 커져간다. 그리고 어느덧 삶의 많은 순간이 나의 죽음과 연관 있음을 생각하게 된다. 하나는 내가 스스로 죽음으로서 받아 들려야 하는 헛되고 무의미한 허황된 것들에 대한 포기이고, 또 다른 하나는 누군가의 생명이 되는 희생으로서의 죽음이다.
죽음이란 나의 삶의 어떤 의미인가에 대해 생각하게 되는 것은 당연한 일이다. 인간은 모두 죽는다. 우리는 근본적으로 죽음으로 달려가는 인생가운데 놓이게 된다. 우리 모두 죽게 될 것이라는 사실을 깨닫는 것은 성장 과정의 일부라고 할 수 있다. 우리는 모두 폐물이 되어 삐거덕 소리를 내며 녹이 슨 다음 한 붐의 재가 되어 이 세상에서 사라지게 될 것이다. 우리에게 주어진 시간은 한정되어 있다는 것을 인식하는 것은 매우 중요한 일이다. 한정된 시간 속에서 삶의 곳곳에서 일어나고 있는 정신적, 정서적, 영적인 죽음에 관한 이야기들에 대해 대면하려 한다.

Many people fall into futile sentiment because of such cognition that life is not eternal but it comes to an end eventually. Does death really take meaning of life, however? Death does not take meaning of life. Rather, it gives meaning to one’s life.

인생이 영원하지 않고 끝이 있다는 이러한 인식 때문에 수많은 사람이 허무한 감정에 빠져든다.
그러나 죽음이 삶의 의미를 빼앗아가는 것일까? 죽음이란 삶의 의미를 빼앗아가는 것이 아니라 삶의 의미를 가져다 준다.

Jesus Christ had ‘The Last Supper’ with his loving ones on the verge of death and prophesied his own death. If there is nothing to gladly die for, no one could lead a fulfilling life; if no relation is made with one’s own death, no one could live a life with confidence and courage. Those who attended in the Last Supper had something to willingly die for; the octopuses living in the white shoes decorated with jewelries are shedding light to the place of the Last Supper as a chandelier. Here lies the life as a shedding light with something to gladly die for.
죽음을 앞두고 나눈 마지막 식사(The Last Supper)에서 Jesus Christ는 그를 사랑하는 사람들과 함께 있었고 죽음을 예언하였다. 기꺼이 죽을 수 있는 그 어떤 것이 없다면 사람은 누구라도 충만한 삶을 영위할 수 없을 것이다. 자기 자신의 죽음과 관계를 맺지 못한다면 누구든 자신감과 용기를 갖고 살아갈 수 없기 때문이다. 기꺼이 죽을 수 있는 삶이 마지막 식사를 하는 이들에게 요구되었고, A life willingly die for was required for those who had ‘The Last Supper’ 보석 박힌 하얀 구두에 사는 octopuses는 하나의 샹드리에(Chandelier)가 되어 이곳을 밝히고 있다. 빛으로 밝혀질 수 있는 기꺼이 죽는 대가를 치르는 삶이 있다.

- Fear of Death/Spiritual Issue
It is very normal to be afraid of death. Death is to enter into an unknown world, and a certain amount of fear, therefore, is evidence that one is very healthy. An attitude of ignoring death, on the other hand, may be an unhealthy response. Most of people, of course, do not like contemplating their death. Many people do not even like to think about it. However, to refuse to think about one’s death may result in limiting one’s own consciousness by expelling death from cognition.
- 죽음의 공포
죽음을 두려워하는 것은 정상이다. 죽는다는 것은 미지의 세계로 들어가는 것이므로, 알 수 없는 세계로의 진입을 어느 정도 두려워하는 것은 사실 매우 건강하다는 증거다. 오히려 죽음을 무시하려 드는 태도가 건강하지 않은 모습일 것이다. 물론 사람들 대부분은 자신이 죽는다는 것을 놓고 고민하는 걸 별로 좋아하지 않는다. 아예 생각조차 하기 싫어하는 사람도 많다. 그러나 죽음에 대한 생각을 거부하는 것은 인식 속에서 죽음을 몰아냄으로써 자신의 의식을 제안하는 결과를 낳게 된다.

A lot of dying beings stand at the entrance (gate) of unknown world beyond death. They think over while staring at the gate but they do not attempt to enter the gate. Remembering many moments in their lives, they are lost for words before the fundamental principles of what one sows, so shall he reap. In the mind of people dying without words, the gate of hell (or the gate of heaven) is filled with ‘Devil Fish’.
죽어가는 수많은 존재들은 죽음 너머 미지의 세계의 입구(문)에 서게 된다. 그 문을 바라보며 생각하고 또 생각하지만 그곳으로 들어가려 하지 않는다. 살아온 많은 순간들을 기억하며 심은 대로 거두는 인생의 근본적인 원리 앞에 할말을 잃는다. 말없이 죽어가는 사람의 마음 속에 지옥의 문(또는 천국의 문)은 Devil Fish들로 가득하다
- Understanding Death/Emotional Issue
Dying people deny, get angry, and start dealing with death. Then, they fall into deep despair and repeat denial, anger and dealings out of tremendous agony. Whenever leaving a big footprint to traverse the harsh desert of life and whenever achieving an important internal growth, people start from denial, go through anger and dealings to reach despair and finally experience acceptance.

죽어가는 사람들은 부인하고 분노하며 거래하기 시작한다. 그러다 절망하고 절망하다가 너무나 고통스러워서 다시 부인하고 분노하며 거래하기를 반복한다고 한다. 인생이라는 거친 사막을 가로지르기 위해 커다란 발자국을 남길 때 마다, 내적으로 중대한 발전을 이룰 때마다 사람들은 부정에서 출발하여 분노와 거래를 거쳐 절망에 이른 다음 수용이라는 과정을 겪는다.

Octopuses in high heels, aspiring to live in a beautiful and high place, become columns, supporting the fear and fright of death. In the mind of those who are scared of and negligent in contemplation, those who are not even thinking of contemplation, a series of columns are being built. Many clasping minds hard to give up are accumulated highly as an image of octopuses living in high heels.
아름답고 높은 곳에 살아가기 원하는 high heels 속에 살아가는 octopuses은 기둥이 되어 죽음의 공포와 두려움을 떠받치고 있다. 인식하기를 무서워하거나 게을리하는 사람들 마음 속에 기둥이 하나하나 세워지고 있다. 포기할 수 없어 놓지 못하는 많은 마음들은 하이힐 속에 살아가는 문어의 모습으로 겹겹이 쌓여져서 간다.
